I WAS DRIVING MY 1997 PONTIAC TRANSPORT DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE DIED. AFTER SITTING FOR ANOUT FIVE MINUTES AND IT STARTED AGAIN BUT DIED RIGHT AWAY WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS. MY QUESTION IS WOULD THIS HAVE ANY THING TO WITH THE FUEL PUMP RELAY OR IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE THAT I CAN TRY? I AM JUST BUYING IT SO I ONLY DROVE IT APPROX. 15 MILES AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS WHEN I DROVE IT THEN. COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME WITH ANY IDEAS WITH MY PROBLEM. THANX.

Hi mockster69,

Thank you for the donation.

When the Check Engin Light illuminates while driving, an error has been detected by te engine management system. It can be any of tens of possibilities.

You need a scan to find out what is causing the problem an the inability to start. You can get a free scan done at your local Autozone outlet. Let us know the exact error code and we will see what needs to be done.
