The Pontiac transport Montana has a 3.4 engine. At interstate speeds, it will irratically cut out briefly, and then run smooth again. I am unfamiliar with the vehicle, but my guess might be the breaking down of the coil.
What do you think it might be?

intermittent stumbling is almost impossible to figure out.
It needs to finally die to test if you are missing spark or fuel.

about the coil, generally when GM modules or coils die from heat, they stay dead until it cools off for a few hours. So I don't expect that to be the problem.
