Engine Performance problem
1995 Pontiac Transport 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The service light comes on and stays on, sometimes when I start up. Sometimes, it doesn't want to start, but the starter motor seems to be working, (according to my mechanic). He says that the alternator is doing it's job and he suspects the fuel system, like the fuel pump or fuel filter. I had cars with fuel pumps going out; they always stoped when I stoped (like for a traffic light), or hesitate on excelleration. I still think it's the alternator. I have replaced the battery.

what do you think?

Pull the DTC's from the computer. If the alternator is not putting out it will not recondition the battery
