would having exhaust in cooling system cause the tempeture to raise and then cause the radiatior fluid purge itself into the overflow resvoir, therefor causing the fluid to overflow onto the ground. which then would make the low fluid light come on.

This is technically known as overheating, and can be caused by a number of things, like defective, thermostats, cooling fans, or relays, bad water pump, and yes even a bad head gasket....
