1999 Pontiac Sunfire Steering wheel locked while driving

1999 Pontiac Sunfire 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The steering wheel locked up while turning left into a parking spot (the check gauges and battery lights came on) car was still running. Turned car off and re-started and all was good. Happened again while making a left turn onto a street. This time car died and steering wheel locked.

sounds like you need to replace the steering coloumn'
this one can be repaired but parts and labor will be a lot more then a used coloumn
