Engine Cooling problem
1997 Pontiac Sunfire 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 245 00 miles

my sunfire has a cooling fan problem. The fan always turns on when the car is started, and will run until the car is shut off... the weather does not matter... even if sub zero temperatures... any ideas what is causing this?

A faulty cts might cause the problem? Check for any trouble codes. Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.

You might do some testing at the cooling fan relay, if you unplug the relay and do an ohms test on the terminals for the switch side of the relay, on the relay, there should be no continuity.

The computer grounds the coil side of the relay in order to energize the relay.

I'd check for trouble codes, first. Like I said, some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free. A code might point you in the right direction.

Do you have a cheap multimeter of some kind, they usually have an ohms setting, sends a small voltage through the circuits your testing, see if there is continuity.
