how hard is it to change the ignition switch and do i have to mess with the airbags?

its not hard. but you need special tools. it is held in by inverted torx bolts. so you will need to get a set of those. i had to grind mine down to get it small enough to fit the bolts. remove the upper and lower cover around ignition switch. then reevaluate. hope this helps. feedback is much appreciated.
