I have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire SE, 4 cylinder, manual transmission with just over 199000 miles. The car, besides a few issues over the years, has ran great and good the past weeks as well. But this week it's like a night and day difference. It starts up well, but then it is running extremely sluggish and like it's chugging and gasping for fuel. When I drive it it goes but when I come to a stop it feels like it wants to stop, but never does. Even during driving when I push on the gas there is not good acceleration, it keeps going but not the fast pickup I am accustomed to. I have put fuel injector cleaner into the tank yesterday and fuel additive, but it still is extremely sluggish. I am very concerned to drive it even as I don't want to take a chance of it dying at major intersections and then having to pay for a tow bill as well. Again this car has not given me any problems even during the cold and this sluggishness has just recently taken place and my check engine light has recently come on, has been off up until this point. I took it on a trip a week ago and had no problems on that trip. I know it's alot of miles, but I only need my car to get me to and from work 3 miles each way, down fairly busy roads here in Omaha. I have come to a few conclusions, Blown Head Gasket, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, clogged injectors. Alls I want is a recommendation as I am not looking to spend a fortune on a car that really isn't worth a major repair, and to get from from work and back.I appreciate your help, any assistance is greatly appreciated.
