battery light on. changed with rebuilt alt and a new battery. had alt tested and passed. what should the multimeter read when im checking it?

is alternator light (charge light) staying on with engine on? check drive belt to alternator ensure its not damaged and is tightened properly. also check for clean and tight connections to alt. and battery.
