I have checked the service manual to make sure all bolts have been removed. It acts like the engine and trans have grown together with age, I have never had this problem. What am I missing? Is there a trick?

Have you unbolted the torque converter? It may be binding. Also, are you sure the guide pins are not binding if you have upward pressure on the engine?
