i have an 85 sunbird, and i dont think its ready for the boneyard yet... iv filled the fluids in the car, although i need to do an oil change and change the transmission fluid. my question is, i have white smoke when i start it ( not billowing ) during the warm and cold weather. especially when i first start it. not to mention, when it idles it will idle high then start to bog out and then catch itself and the process repeats... when reving the engine it sounds throaty, but the exhaust system is new so i know thats not the problem. what could be the problem? please help

it sounds yopu have the start ofr a leaking head gasket. when engine cools down, coolant seeps ionto cylinder and causes it to blow white smoke when cold.
