On my 2003 pontiac vibe, how do you get the front rotors off? Do I have to remove the star shapped nut from the the center of the rotor hub area? I took off the wheel and the caliper and caliper mounting bracket.I even tapped on the back of the rotor with a hammer with no luck. It looks like the rotor and the center piece are one piece. The center hole area of the new rotor is flat and looks like it is supposed to slide onto that center hub piece Please help!

If you removed the caliper and bracket the rotor should come off. Sometimes the manufacturer will use small clips on the wheel studs to keep rotor on during assy. Process. You can cut these off, and you do not need to replace them.

The large center nut (30mm or so) with a cotter pin, holds the axle on and DO NOT remove it.

The rotor could simply be rusted on, try PB Blaster.
