1977 Other Pontiac Models V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

HI guys my name is Eric and I have a 1977 Pontiac Catalina and I am having problem with it the problem is every time I start it up it cuts off immediately for one thing I have to hold down the gas paddle just for it to start up but as soon as I let off the gas paddle it cuts off I haven't got a tune-up on it at all the only thing I done was had the spark plugs and wire replaced about 3 years ago I was told that that was the problem but I think it is more to it then that what do you guys think?

Hi:
The choke needs to open somewhat when the car starts. If it closes, it will shut the engine off with too much gas and not enough air. That is why you have to push the gas pedal down to start it. When it's to the floor, the choke opens.

Try an old trick. Open the choke butterfly and place a screwdriver down it so it can't close. Make sure it has a big enough handle on it so it doesn't slid down in. Try to start the car. Let me know what happens.
