The engine worked fine the day before while shopping and always starts on the first crank. But today when the key is turned it begins to crank, but suddenly starts clicking. Nothing was left on to drain the battery. Trying to jump it from another vehicle does not change or help at all. I am thinking the starter maybe or the battery but I don't really know!

If you're so sure the battery and connection are okay I'd say the starter overrunning clutch is slipping
