Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Pontiac Montana 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My 2001 Pontiac Montana will not start on cold days. The battery is hot and turning over fine. Spark plugs are about 3 months old. Been running fine. It will crank when temp warms up. Any help would be great.

Are you using the correct grade/viscosity oil(5w-30)? Cheap or thicker vis oils(10w-30, 10w40) may cause this problem, although it would be uncommon. Other causes besides battery would be a weak starter or solinoid or corrosion on cables at battery.

Thanks for responding to my question. I do appreciate it. The symptoms you named are all valid problems to check. The oil I use is quality and correct grade. I replaced the started about 4 months ago with an OEM. I also went ahead replaced the battery cables. I was wondering if there was some type of cold engine valve or possible electronic ignition or fuel pump problem. I am not a wrench, but I am trying to figure out why the cold temp is such a factor in it's failure to start. It starts up every time when the temp is above 50 degrees. I have had it in the shop two times and no one has found the problem. I was wondering, if I hooked to a code reader if I could snoop out the problem. I don't think they hooked it to a code reader at the shop I took it too.
