Two simple questions

Hi,

I drive a 2006 Grand Prix with a 3800 V6 engine. I don't know if it is supercharged, but I don't think it makes a difference in my questions.

Anyhow, I have to change the oil soon, and I was looking at rates for dealerships, which are huge ripoffs, so my dad recommended that I do it myself.

Anyhow my dad told me there are two things I need to do. One is change the oil filter and the other is to unscrew a bolt under the car to let the dirty oil out.

I'm new at this whole car thing, so thanks for bearing with me. I think I found the bolt under the car. There is a tank and my dad says the bolt should be at the end of the tank facing outward to the back of the car. I would still like to confirm if that is where the oil should come out.

My second question is the location of the oil filter.

Thanks in advance.

When you remove the oil filter, MAKE SURE you remove the rubber gasket from the block that should have stayed with the old filter. If you double gasket it, your have oil spitting all over.

As a younger driver, please give careful consideration to what a "rip-off" is. There is a lot of blood sweat and tears that go into learning this feild not to mention expenses. IT is much cheaper to buy the parts yourself and do it yourself, but if you screw it up, you will heve "ripped yourelf off." Throw Dad a twenty and have him do it

Well that is true about the whole rip off thing. I have changed the oil on a different car, but since it was wrecked, I had no idea where to start on the grand prix. Thank you for your quick reply. Oh, even if I bribe my dad, he will still make me do it haha.
