I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix. 80k or less miles on it. My car use to knock real loud when I was idle or breaking and stop/slow down when I accelerated. Now it has slowed down almost too where it doesn’t knock. I have been told it could be one of three things, rod about to bust, filter dirty, and/or loose part under hood. From my description, can you help me identify what it may be?

Rod knock does not get better, only worse.

Possibilities are a bad bearing in belt tensioner, or possible loose flywheel/flexplate.
