I am in desperate need of any advice on my noise issue. I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. I love this car but it has a TERRIBLE whining noise that I am having trouble getting diagnosed. When I push on the gas (in Park or drive), and the rpm's increase, there is a loud whining noise that will increase in pitch and loudness as the rpm's increase. When I take my foot off the gas, the noise disappears. This car has a tap-shift on the steering wheel and if I engage that and control the rpm's I can make this thing absolutely unbearable to drive due to the high pitch loud whining noise. I just had the transmission rebuilt at a local Aamco(not for this reason) and they don't think it is transmission related. Someone please give me ideas that I can take to my mechanic. He is at a loss as is the dealership. The noise seems to be coming from the drivers side but I am not for sure?
What are some options that can cause this annoying whine. The alternator has also been changed as has the belt as well.
Someone mentioned power steering pump or water pump? Are these affected by the increase in rpm's?

If noise goes away when in neutral, it would have to be transmission related.

You can (cold engine) remove serpentine belt and start engine for 30-40 seconds. If noise goes away then PS pump or another accy.
If noise is present, then trans.
