2003 Pontiac Grand Prix enjine light is on, service enjine

Loss of power. Has a hard time shifting into next gear. RPM goes high. Car stalls then eventually shifts into next gear. Cannot go up hills.

I would start by checking convertor, either remove and visually check or perform a backpressure test.
