2002 Pontiac Grand Prix no brake lights at the tail lights

I have brake lights in the back window but do not have any at the tail light assem. I have been told
that my problem is in the steering column. if it indeed is, could you help me correct the ploblem .

Inspect and test the turn and hazard switch the bottom lites circuit goes thru this switch before it goes back there.
