Hello,
I am having a problem with my car and want to make sure it is the transmission and not something else. The problem is that the car will shift from park, to reverse and everything in between it's just that when it has to downshift, to gain passing power, or shift from 2nd to 3rd it does not want to. The RPM's will go up but the speed will not. I just had a transmission service done to it (3-20-10) and the tech said that he did not see any metal shavings and that the liguid was little dark, but he had seen much worse. Everyone is telling me that it is the transmission but I do want to spend 1000.00 dollars, or more, if it is not that. Someone mentioned that it could be a speed sensor, is that possible and how do you check for that. I would like to be prepared when I take it to be fixed. Any help, or advice, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Transmission problems will set a code in the PCM, have codes read at some autoparts stores for free.
If speed sensor is bad, or shift solenoids, they will set a code.
