Hey Guys,
So I've seen a few other guys on here have the same problem I've got. So we'll try this one again. I've got a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L with 45000 miles on it, the problem is that the brake lights no longer work, however the 3rd brake light in the window does. And while messing with the hazard lights and steering column, I will get a flicker or two. I've researched this and found that most likely the problem is in steering column along with the turn signal switch. All of the wires are intertwined and hooked together. This is what I've gathered so far. Can anyone tell me if Im on the right track or not, also this part that Ive come across is about $700. You may be able to pick it up for 500 somewhere, I will be writing General Motors(Pontiac Division) a letter describing the problem, I think this could be a recall thing. If I were anyone else on here I'd do the same thing. Anyways, anymore help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Justin

I had a Buick Regal, it did the same thing, if I held up on the signal light arm, the brake lights would work. I had the signal light arm replaced and that solved the problem. The signal light assembly arm cost $100 Canadian about 5 years ago. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks. I replaced the switch also and it fixed the problem. At cost the part was $220 U.S. It would of cost me double that from the dealer.

A friend of a friend was able to help me out and get the part at cost. Sorry, I can't pass on the contact info. I got lucky, I usually don't get deals like that one.

Oh, and it is possible to replace the switch assembly without pulling the steering wheel.
