I just took my car in to fix a check engine light which turned out to be the thermostat problem. Now they found that my brake lights all of a sudden don't work. What is the switch that triggers the brake lights to work and what is the cost of this part?

There is a brake switch, located on the brake pedal arm. If it is not working, neither would your cruise control.

Check bulbs, and fuses.
