I took my car to replace my radiator and was told my A/C compressor was about to lock up. i noticed the Metal on Metal noise and can even see shards of metal around the compressor. The AC doesn't work anyway but he told me if it does lock up the belt would break and i would be screwed. even if i replace the belt the compress won't turn and i will be stranded. I am just surprised that an accessory like ac would totally shut down my engine. Is that true? can i do anything besides replacing the compressor?

You can buy an elimination pulley and remove the compressor, or get a junkyard compressor before it's too late.
