I have a 97' pontiac grand prix and when its started whether cold or hot the idle of the car goes up and down. Im curious about what is causing this to happen. There are no check engine lights on . Also, the car has a rumble to it when its started and driving, its not something a spectator can recognize but it can be felt as you hit the gas . I think it may be a loose exhaust connection somewhere but I am unsure. Last, the car gives off the smell of oil being burnt if you where to stand next to it, im curious of what causes this smell??

Clean out the idle air control valve and EGR valve and test the throttle position and maifold absolute pressure sensors.
