Hi there! My car has been overheating, I replaced the thermostat, and the upper and lower radiator hoses. A mechanic told me it was a platium valve[ as I understood]but have been unable to find if that is the correct pronunciation and he said it was under something like the heads, and it would cost me a couple hundred dollars for repair! Does any of this make sense to you? Thanks bunches. I am a woman that needs my car running!

Make sure the cooling fans are working, turn on AC and fans should run (at slower speed), if not then fan motor, fuse, fan switch or relay.

Have cooling system pressure tested.

Ask mechanic to spell the part he thinks is bad. Platinum is used as a catalyst in the convertor.
