To open the front door on my Pontiac Gran Prix(from the outside) I have to lift the handle and then lift up on it for the door to open. The door opens perfectly from the inside so I don't think it's a hinge problem. My question is is there a cable or linkage that could be stretched or possibly be adjusted?

You will have to remove the interior and inspect the rods that actuate the lock. Also check that striker bolt is tight.
