Dunno what Make/Model but could be the shift interlock system-possible brake switch/shift lock solenoid or its computer

Thanks for the response 'rasmataz'. The car is a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix. Should I have someone read the codes?

The computer I'm refering to is for the shift lock system not the PCM. Are the brake lights working? The brake switch powers the shift lock solenoid and the computer.

Disconnect the shifter cable at the transmission, then see if the shifter moves any better. Could be a bad cable.

Thanks again for all the help "rasmataz" and "dennyp". Surprisingly the shifter started to work just fine a couple of days ago. I will check the cable if it messes up again. Thanks!
