My blinkers randomly stop working. Not just on the outside ( bulb ) but you cant see them go on in the inside either. It's not all the time. This car has a car starter installed after market. Could this be installed wrong?

Start by replacing your flasher unit. If that does not solve the problem, you have to diagnose the multi-function switch.

This guide can help you fix it

I have been having issues with my turn signal it will work off and on again. I turn on my turn signal and it will work fine then the next time it doesn't work at all. I have even had it stop working as it was being used. It first happend when I replaised the ignition switch. The led light in my stereo went out for about 2 months but the stereo still works. Then the blinks started acting up and it has been getting more and more frequent. I have had the led light come back on once so I know that it is not out. What could cause the turn signal to work some times and not others? It has to be a short but were? How do I find it?

Hi Pontiac037,

Thank you for the donation.

Problem should be due to a loose wire connection somewhere. It could also be a bad ground, power supply or a faulty component.

When turn signals does not work, does the hazard lights works?

Does both left and right turn fails at the same time?

Are you able to perform tests with a test lamp?

I was able to see if the hazard lights work and they do and it was just the one time I have tried to use them. The turn signals worked fine once I used the my hazard lights. My turn signal came back on like normal and worked for the rest of my trip. Yes if they go out it is both left and right turn signal fail, I have tried to turn on and off the signal and 99% of the time that does nothing at all. I do not have a way to use a test lamp. Thanks for your help

If operating the hazard jump starts the turn signals, the flasher unit could be weak and fails intermittently. Check the flasher unit wire connectors and turn signal fuse for looseness.

What would cause my flashers to not work, and also cause turn signal and emergency lights not to work?

A bad flasher will do this which is part of the hazard flasher switch in your car.

Yep, it sounds like they missed a bad turn signal switch, lets fix this ourselves here is a guide to help check the power and ground of the system with the blinker wiring diagrams so you can see how it works.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Could be the flasher can under dash, some are thermal and when hot will stop working, newer ones are electronic.

When you have a bulb out on one side that side will flash faster. So do you have a multimeter and test light to do some testing?

Electrical problem
2000 Pontiac Grand Am Automatic 94000 miles

This morning for the first time ever the turn signals did not work. After about 5-10 minutes they started working again. Could this be because of all the rain Northern NJ has had for the past month or so? Or is something else going wrong?

I need the car to be in tip top shape by Tuesday since we need to travel to another state to be with my mother who is going in surgery. I need to know if its something that has to be immediately addressed.

Thanks!

I had the same problem and it was due to a faulty hazard switch.
When my signal lights failed to work I would just toggle the hazard switch till the signals started to work.
I think there is a recall on this problem if it is still valid.

Yeah I have the same problem with my 2000 Grand Am. I've hear on several forums that there is a recall on the faulty relay switch. When mine don't work I simply just push my hazards button twice and the blinkers come on. I'm only doing that for now though until I can get up to the dealership for the recall.
