My car has been sitting for the past 4 months. I drove it today and smelled a carbide smell which appeared to be coming from the engine. Also, my windows and especially windshield were fogging up. The winshield would fog heavily where the defroster is. Is the heater core gone?

Find heater core hoses' on firewall, with engine at temp. and gloves on touch both hoses (heater on), both hoses should be hot, if so then heater core is not blocked, if only one is hot then core is blocked.

Generally, if not blocked, the heater core would leak coolant into passengers compartment. Inspect for any coolant.
