Engine Cooling problem
1999 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I just replaced the engine and heater core, car is getting hot, and coolant smell and smoke coming from my vents and coolant is found in heater core compartment, I ran a hose through the heater core and it does not seem to have any leaks, what is causing this problem?

Remove the two heater core hoses on firewall, get a union connector and connect hoses, this will bypass the heater core, if problem goes away, then heater core is bad.

If car still overheats, start with compression test to rule out head gasket, If OK, the perform a cooling system pressure test.
