In hot weather the throttle doesn't return and is staying open. It's not a broke spring or cable, I checked those.

Is it physically staying open, or is it a high idle concern. If it is physically staying open, and all the cables are slack, then it has a problem with the throttle body. If it is high idle, it is a driveability issue, and I would start with determining if there are trouble codes in the ECM.

It is physically staying open, I can put my foot behind the accelerator and lift up on it and it goes back to normal. I was thinking about adding an extra spring to see if that would get it to return all the way. I just hate to have to spend a couple hundred dollars for a minor repair.

I did see where pontiac had a recall back in 04, but I missed the boat on that one.

If you can lift up on the pedal, are you sure that the accelerator cable is not sticking? If the throttle was mechanically binding, lifting up on the pedal should just create more slack in the cable.
