2002 Pontiac Grand Am Timing gears

Can this engine stretch the timing chain and wear out the sprockets as to where the chain slips a tooth on the sprockets and will not start?
We changed the tensioner and checked the chain guides which were not worn. We retimed the engine and When we turn over the engine by hand the exhaust cam will allow the chain to slip over the on the teeth The engine is a 2.2 ecotech(L61)

Where are you turning the engine? Need to turn it by the crank bolt only and only clcokwise as you look at the front of it. Be sure the cam journals are good on the exhaust cam, might be binding causing the chain to over extend the tensioner and allow more slack.I have never heard of a chain problem with an Ecotec so far. What was the original problem?

The original problem was she stopped to eat and when she came out her car would not start. it just spun over with the starter like no compression.
When we took the valve cover off the timing gears marks were not in the proper places with the crank on tdc. We were turning the engine the the bolt in the crank and clockwise. There just seems to be alot of slack in the chain with every thing in the proper position.

Did you inspect eh gears for excessive wear? I havent seen this before, especially when it was parked and then tried to start it. Does the exhaust cam move freely or does it bind then jump when the egine is turned

We put in the new timing chain and gears got every thing in time we were able to rotate the engine over without the chain slipping and discovered that all the intake valves are bent and hanging open.(no compresssion)
