To answer your original question, there is no specific mile or time period to replace a timing chain, having said that, I would certainly inspect the chain every year. Look for abnormal wear on teeth or links that are deformed, also inspect chain for any debris from guides.

If you did the work yourself, it is far cheaper to replace the chain than the engine.
