Ok here goes. My son was driving the car and it
over heated. Their wasn't any water in the radiator there was earilier and there was water still in the reserve tank it looked like it had oil instead of water. After putting water in it to get it home when following him I could see it leaking massively. The car is making a tick tick noice may I add loudly. It has over heated in the past and so we have had the radiator checked not leaking. Put a new theremstat on it. Could the head be cracked. Please help me! Oh yeah before he started to drive no problem with the vehicle! Any help would be helpful!

Have it block and pressure tested-do the block first to pinpoint a combustion leaking into the cooling system or a gas analyzer to sniff for hydrocarbons at the radiator fill neck.

Pressure test: do not do a pressure test if there's leakage at the headgasket this might cause coolant into the cylinders and lock it up or bend a connecting rod if cranked thereafter. The headgasket should be repaired before doing the pressure test.
