2001 Pontiac Grand Am Ignition Cylinder

I have a 01 Grand Am and i just went through repairing quite a bit under the hood, alternator, water pump, thermostat, oil pan gasket, and a coolant flush. I then started the car let it run for a while and eveything seem to be ok. There were no more leaks and the temperature was staying normal. So i took the car out for a nice drive. The car started and turned off a few times through out the day. When i got home that night i then needed to go back out and when i went to the car to start it the key would not turn in the ignition cylinder. The steering wheel moves freely from all the way to the right and all the way over to the left. The steering wheel is NOT LOCKED making the key work this way. I have the ignition cylinder taken apart now getting ready to replace it with one that has a key already coded so i will be making my car a 2 key system which is fine with me. My problem is that i can not get the cylinder out because i can not turn the key and pull. I read that there is a rod inside the housing of the cylinder which is locked and this rod needs to be drilled out. Is this correct? All i see is the plastic housing. Where do i drill if that is what i need to do? Can you provide a picture or diagram of where this spot may be? Or can you let me know if there is another way to do this.
