2001 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl

I had my car taken into the shop due to it not turning over all the way to start. They replaced the Lock key sensor(Lock-Ignition (Cylinder & Keys)). My husband is deployed and the mechanics and shops where im at are known to rip off women bc they know most likely there husband is deployed. They said it would cost me $320 to have it fixed. I was wondering if im getting ripped off or not. I know nothing about cars so im not sure if that is a fair price or not.

Hello,

The price is in the ball park, i've seen a few people pay $300.00 for the new ignition cylinder and they were men so I dont belive they are overcharging you because your a woman. If you feel you are getting ripped off you can try and get a second estimate from another shop but by your original post it seems as if they have already done the work. If you want to call another shop for an estimate you can try that but as I know the cylinder is a $180.00 part from the factory so after the shop charges you their price for the part and their hourly rate which could be around $80-$90/hr you will probably end up paying in the $275-$300 range, I belive the $320.00 is in the range.
