i was driving home from work and my temperature gauge randomly dropped to just above 150 degrees for a few second, then bounced around for a few more seconds and then returned to its normal spot and stayed there. bad wire? or something like a sensor or the gauge itself?

Could be a wire or the sensor most likely you would have to watch the temp reading on a scan tool that read's live data and go from there.
