Lately I have noticed on my wifes car listed above a whine that gets louder with increased RPMS. With the a/c off I carefully listened to the moving components alternator, smog pump and power steering pump. I also looked at the serpentine belt which looks ok and was replaced about 15K miles ago. It's difficult to determine the actual location of the whine but when I physically put my hand on all the components above the power steering resevoir seemed to be giving me a grinding type feeling, the alternator felt smooth as did the smog pump. So I am leaning towards replacing the power steering pump. any thoughts?
