2000 Pontiac Grand Am fuel guage not right

I ran out of fuel awhile back and now my gauge seems to be off because I ran out again and the gauge was at 1/4 tank. where is the fuel level sensor located,and how do I replace it.

It is in the fuel tank attached to the sending unit.
