Sugar in the fuel tank is really a big myth for the most part, because the sugar will never make it to the engine to ruin it. The sugar stays granulated, it does not turn into syrup like most think. There are fuel filters in place that will prevent the granulated particles of sugar from making it to the engine. So to get the sugar out of the tank so that it does not block up the fuel filter, you need to just drop the fuel tank and clean it out good. If you don't have much experience with mechanics than most auto shops would do this job for under $200. If there wasn't much sugar poured in than you could get away with just replacing the fuel filter, starting engine, turn off and replace fuel filter again.
