Engine Cooling problem
1999 Pontiac Grand Am V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a Pontian Grand AM and it has been over heating. I got it fixed well water pump replaced and it worked for a week. The mechanin told me I would need to replace resevoir and thermastat if not it would eventually start overheating again. Well a week past and it stated over heating. Now the car wont start it. It overheated then turned off. It sounds like it wants to start but can idnite or spark to get the engine going. Now I am unsure of what is going on. Does the overheating have any thing to do with head gasket?

If the vehicle overheats. Dependent on time it overheats it could cause the head to warp or blow the headgasket since the head is aluminum and block is cast iron and those headbolts are very tight
