I have a 98 Pontiac Grand Am with about 120,000 miles on it. I was driving down the road today at about 50 MPH and the trans just started slipping. It was like someone just threw it in neutral. I coasted to a parking lot and it would not move. I checked the cable where it attaches to the trans bracket and it is moving fine as we shift through the gears. It just doesn't do anything. I checked the fluid and it is fine. It just seems like it is in Neutral and will not move. I would hate to pull the trans if it could be something easier like a switch or something.

No warning lights at all. Just acts like it is in neutral through the whole shift range.

The only thing I can recommend is to make sure the ATF is full. If it is, you need to have the trans control module checked (TCM). If it is good, the trans needs to come out.
