Noises problem
1998 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Automatic 178000 miles

I bought this car 4 months ago and yesterday it started knocking pretty bad and running roughly. I took it to a shop and with the mechanic just listening he thinks its the rods knocking in the motor. Does this sound like what it is or could it be something else?

If knock increases with engine speed, then it is probably a rod.
