Engine Performance problem
1997 Pontiac Grand Am Front Wheel Drive Automatic 156000 miles

im new with cars and im about to purchase my first vehicle. All I know is that its a pontiac grand am with 156000 miles on it. The car looks clean but when I went to turn it on the enigine didn't rev. The lights came on though. The guy said the vehicle needs a new battery and a water pump. He's asking $900 for it. My questions are what is the real problem and how much is it going to cost to repair?

Hello, this is just my opinion, I wouldn't buy a car if I couldn't test-drive it. I have had to work on vehicles in the car lot to get it going, but, I knew what the problem was and I knew I could fix-it. I did test drive before I bought it. They even dropped the price a little because I had to work on it. You need a friend or somebody that knows about cars, to look at it.
