I have a 97 grand am gt that threw a rod through the front of the engine. I'm looking at buying a 94 grand am to replace the the one in the 97. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that the engines in these two years are compatible. I was hoping someone could enlighten me on whther or not this is true. Thank you in advance.

As long as the engines are exactly the same, it will interchange. However, you'll have to check on your state laws to see if this is allowable.

Some states won't let you replace a newer engine with an older one. You'll fail an emissions inspection.
