Car was running fine, all of a sudden lost power like ign. Was being retarded. Lockup tourqeconverter would not engage, battery light came on intermitinly. After sitting for a day, battery went dead like it is shorted out. It was a rainy day when this started.

Make sure the battery has a full charge and all connections are ok. Check the charging system. If the vehicle cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs.
