1997 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Automatic 80000+ miles

The cruise control will come on randomly while driving and cannot be shut off by applying the brakes or turning it off on the steering column. Sometimes will come on as soon as the car is started. Have to drive with foot on brake otherwise cruise control will make me go 65mph cause it won't go off. Can I just disable the cruise control by removing a fuse, ordisconnecting a wire? Can't afford an expensive service call if I can fix this at home. Please help.

Remove fuse and disconnect electrical connector to cruise servo.

This is a dangerous situation.
