1996 Pontiac Grand Am Car does not accelerate

My car was runnung fine, and when I turned it back on and started driving I notice that my Speedometer was not marking, and the car was not accelerating which was making a ramming soundi

Best place to start is to get the fuel presure tested with a mechanical gauge, if low (under 25psi) the car will idle, but pressure is not suffecient to run engine under load.

Also check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line for presence of gas, which would indicate a ruptured diaphram.

The speedometer is a seperate issue, most likely a vehicle speed sensor.
