Engine Performance problem
1994 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 129000 miles

When I drive the car engine skips as I accelerate, does the fuel filter need replacing or is it something else causing this. I bought the car two years ago as used and i've never replaced the fuel filter. It has a quad 4 engine in it also. Please advise. Thanks.

The symptoms of a clogged fuel filter are boggong on wide open acceleration. What you are describing is a coil cover that is failing. Start by replacing spark plugs and the coil cover housing. This coil cover housing is just like a distributor cap and directs the spark from the coil through the coil cover to the spark plug and they fail causing your symp[toms. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the input.I also had a car friend tell me it is probably my fuel filter. So we are going to replace it and see if that is it. Reason being is because it has never been replaced ever. Will let you know. Thanks.P
